Regular inspection of your vehicle's tires is essential to ensure that they are in good condition and safe to drive on. Here are some things to look out for.

How to Determine if Your Tires Need Replacing

Regular inspection of your vehicle's tires is essential to ensure that they are in good condition and safe to drive on. Here are some things to look out for:

Low Tread DepthThe DOT considers tire tread depth below 2/32" to be unsafe and in need of replacement.

Tire DamageIf your tire(s) have been punctured in a location that is not repairable or if the steel or fabric material is visible, then the tire should be replaced immediately.

Irregular WearCheck for any signs of uneven or irregular tire tread wear, such as bulges on the sidewalls or other signs of damage.

Should You Replace 2 or 4 Tires? The TIA recommends replacing all four tires at once to ensure consistent tread wear and prevent damage to the drivetrain. For some four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive vehicles, the manufacturer may require all four tires to be replaced at the same time.

If you only need to replace two tires, it's best to install them on the rear axle of the vehicle. Consult your owner's manual to determine if your vehicle has any specific manufacturer requirements.

Why New/Better Tires Should be Installed on the Rear AxleWhen only replacing two tires, it's crucial to have them installed on the rear axle to maintain vehicle stability and prevent hydroplaning in wet conditions.
