Top Methods for Effectively Sanitizing Your Car

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected daily life across the world and safety is a top priority in the fight against this virus. While you may wash your hands, wear a mask, and sanitize frequently, it's important not to forget about your car. Your vehicle is also a point of contact for the virus, and with lockdowns in place, people are traveling less but still at risk of exposure through their cars.

According to the CDC, COVID-19 can survive on some surfaces for up to three days, which means your car has a high chance of holding the virus. To prevent contamination, the CDC has set recommendations for sanitizing your car.

When disinfecting your car, make sure to wear the appropriate protective gear, including disposable gloves, a mask, and long-sleeved clothing. Apply an alcohol-based sanitizer to your hands before wearing gloves, and use alcohol-based wipes or sprays with at least 70% alcohol to sanitize your car.

Start by cleaning the most frequently touched surfaces, such as inside door handles, gear shift, indicator levers, steering wheel, radio knobs, air conditioning buttons, safety belts, and armrests, among others. Avoid using ammonia-based solutions on screens, as they can damage the anti-glare effect and compromise safety.

Don't forget to clean the interior of the boot thoroughly, as this is a high-risk area where you may carry groceries or other items.

After cleaning and disinfecting your car, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly with a recommended disinfectant. It's also important to have any passengers who enter your vehicle wash or sanitize their hands.
